We have only been in school for 9 days, and we have been so busy!
I will be putting information on the blog regularly - please check it frequently for information.
There may be a few very busy times where I am not updating as much, so please bear with me!

Mermaid bag (well, she's a headless mermaid now, so that makes it even more exciting)....

We have completed most of our plasticine pieces. I hope you can find a special frame for them to go on a wall at home.
Math
We are using apples and trees to make all the combinations for 6.
Doubles
We are working hard at learning our doubles. Please practise your cards at home.

use objects you have at home to solve this problem (cereal, pasta, buttons, etc.)
Have your child model for you how we use objects to solve problems like this. This is the problem-solving strategy we are working on right now.
Problem Solver: Using Objects as a strategy
Here is the problem solver we did today using 2 colors of beads:
Jane had a bag of 10 jellybeans. She traded her friend Jim for some of his gummybears. For every 2 jellybeans she gave Jim, she got 3 gummybears. She traded until all of her jellybeans were gone. How many gummybears did she get?

We worked in pairs using objects to solve the problem.
Where The Wild Things Are
We are working on a "WILD THINGS" project.
We listen to classical music when we paint to get our creative juices flowing.
Here we are experimenting with watercolor paint and paper.
Thank-you very much to those who sent treats for our Halloween Day at school!
More Guided Reading
This guided reading group is using their toolbox to find the color words in their books. They are printing each color word on a sticky.
We then each came up and put our words under the correct heading.

Authors
Has your child told you that they love to write?
Well, that's because we are authors! We read wonderful literature of all kinds many times daily, and we also spend a lot of time writing. We love to share our stories in our Author's Chair!
Ask your child about a story they have written and they may even bring it home to read to you if they remember to bring their writing book back the next day. We use them every day and we always need them at school.
Here is a hilarious book we LOVE about Chester the author.

Halloween!
Halloween
We will be dressing up in our costumes and having Halloween activities at school on Friday, October 30th.
If you would like to send a treat for the afternoon, please make a note in the agenda. Thank-you!

Author's Chair
Here is our very special Author's Chair. We share our stories using a microphone when we have finished writing them.
Guided Reading
This is our Toolbox we keep in our guided reading bookbags. We use sticky notes to look for specific things in stories and write them down.
This student is searching for information in her guided reading book. She is reading for a specific purpose.
Mrs. Macey bought a cricut!
Have you heard about our new cricut? We have been using this special cutting machine in the classroom. We LOVE it!
Ten Frames
The first thing we made is our ten frame sets. Each student picked a design and color of paper for their set. The cricut cut them out!
We made vegetable soup!
We all had jobs to do - washing, peeling, and adding to the pot.
We added some freshly ground pepper.
In science we are learning about the parts of plants.
We looked at each vegetable we added and decided if we were eating the root, stem, leaves, or fruit.
We each had a turn stirring the soup and adding some love in.
In goes the water.....
Voila!
Our vegetable soup had onions, celery, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and pasta.
Yummy!
